Belle Mare is one of the longest and most pristine beaches on Mauritius' east coast, stretching for several kilometres of unbroken white sand. Backed by dense casuarina forest, the beach faces the sunrise over the Indian Ocean. The lagoon here is wider and deeper than many Mauritius beaches, offering excellent swimming. Several luxury resorts line portions of the beach, but public access points preserve its accessibility.
Belle Mare is approximately 50 minutes from the airport on the east coast road. Public buses run along the coastal route from Centre de Flacq. The public beach has parking and basic facilities. Walk north or south to find quieter stretches.
