Camps Bay is an urban beach on the Atlantic Seaboard of Cape Town, backed by the Twelve Apostles mountain range and Lion's Head. It is one of the most recognizable beaches on the continent, combining mountain scenery, Atlantic waves, and a palm-lined promenade. The water is cold year-round due to the Benguela Current.
Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is approximately 30 km away. Camps Bay is directly accessible by car or MyCiti bus from the city centre. Ample roadside parking available, though busy in peak summer.

“Where the cold Atlantic meets the Twelve Apostles mountain range—Africa’s most dramatic urban beach setting, with sunsets that rival anywhere on Earth.”
Camps Bay Beach is on the Atlantic Seaboard of Cape Town, South Africa, approximately 10 minutes from the city centre. It sits between Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles mountain range in the Western Cape province.
Camps Bay Beach has Blue Flag status and lifeguards during peak season. However, the water is cold year-round (12–18°C) due to the Benguela Current from Antarctica. The shore break can be strong. Most visitors enjoy sunbathing and sunset viewing rather than extended swimming.
The water temperature at Camps Bay ranges from 12°C to 18°C year-round due to the cold Benguela Current. Even in summer (December–February), the Atlantic water remains cold. Many visitors prefer the warmer False Bay beaches on the opposite side of the Cape Peninsula.
The best time is November to March (Cape summer) with long sunny days and temperatures of 25–30°C. Sunsets are spectacular year-round. The area can be windy, particularly from September to March when the 'Cape Doctor' southeaster blows.
Activities include sunbathing, sunset watching, beachfront dining along the palm-lined Victoria Road promenade, and exploring nearby attractions: Table Mountain cableway (15 minutes), Lion's Head hike, Clifton beaches, and the V&A Waterfront. It's also a base for the Chapman's Peak scenic drive.
Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is approximately 30 km from Camps Bay. Drive via the N2 and M62 (about 30–45 minutes depending on traffic). MyCiti bus routes connect the airport to the city centre, with separate routes to Camps Bay. Uber and taxis are readily available.
