Essaouira's main beach is a broad, wind-swept stretch of golden sand that curves south from the town's UNESCO-listed medina. Known locally as a "City of Wind" (Alizee trade winds), it is a major destination for wind and kite surfing. The beach adjoins one of Morocco's best-preserved coastal towns, with a rich history as a Portuguese, Berber, and Arab trading port.
Essaouira-Mogador Airport (ESU) has limited flights. Most visitors arrive by bus or car from Marrakech (approximately 2.5 hours). CTM and Supratours operate regular services. The beach is walkable from the medina.

Essaouira Beach is on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, approximately 175 km west of Marrakech. The beach stretches along the historic port town of Essaouira, whose medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Essaouira is nicknamed the 'Wind City of Africa' because of its consistent alizé trade winds, particularly strong from April to September. These reliable winds make it one of the world's premier destinations for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Essaouira is a 2.5–3 hour drive from Marrakech via the N8 highway. Regular buses (Supratours and CTM) operate the route. Essaouira also has a small airport (ESU) with limited domestic and seasonal international flights.
For windsurfing and kitesurfing: April to September (strongest winds). For general beach and sightseeing: September to November (warm, less windy). Summer can be windy and cooler than inland Morocco. Winter is mild (15–20°C) with occasional rain.
Essaouira is better known for windsurfing and kitesurfing than wave surfing. However, the nearby village of Sidi Kaouki (25 km south) offers consistent surf breaks. Moulay Bouzerktoun to the north also has good waves. Board sports of all types thrive in the area.
Beyond the beach: explore the UNESCO-listed medina, visit the historic Skala fortress and ramparts, browse art galleries (Essaouira is an artist hub), enjoy fresh seafood at the port, and explore the argan oil cooperatives. The annual Gnaoua World Music Festival (June) is a major cultural event.
