Nosy Iranja

Diana Region Mozambique Channel Madagascar

Nosy Iranja is arguably Madagascar's most beautiful beach—two islands connected by a 2-km sandbar that appears and disappears with the tides. At low tide, you can walk between Nosy Iranja Be (the larger, inhabited island) and Nosy Iranja Kely (the smaller, uninhabited one). Sea turtles nest on the beaches, and the surrounding water shimmers in impossible shades of turquoise. The islands lie 45 km south of Nosy Be, reachable by speedboat day trip or overnight in the small lodge. The fishing village on the main island offers a glimpse of traditional Sakalava life.
