Togo has just 56 km of Atlantic coastline—one of Africa's shortest—but packs cultural interest into every kilometre. Lomé, the capital, sits directly on the beach, where fishing pirogues launch at dawn and locals gather on the sand as evening falls. The Fetish Market (Marché des Féticheurs) in Lomé sells voodoo ingredients from across the region; this is the spiritual heartland of vodun. German and French colonial architecture survives in the capital, and the beaches east toward Aného offer a quieter alternative. Swimming requires caution due to strong currents, but the cultural experience compensates for the rugged shore.
