Le Morne Brabant served as a shelter for runaway enslaved people (maroons) during the French and early British colonial periods. The mountain was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 in recognition of this history. Visitors should approach the site with awareness of its cultural weight.

Le Morne Beach is on the southwestern tip of Mauritius, at the foot of Le Morne Brabant mountain — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is approximately 45 minutes from the capital Port Louis and 1 hour from the airport.
The 'underwater waterfall' near Le Morne is a stunning optical illusion best seen from the air. Sand and silt deposits on the ocean floor are swept off the coastal shelf by currents, creating the appearance of a massive waterfall plunging into the deep ocean. Helicopter tours offer the best views.
Le Morne is one of the world's top kitesurfing destinations. The 'One Eye' wave is famous among advanced kiters. The flat-water lagoon on the inside is perfect for beginners and freestyle. Best wind conditions are from May to November (southeast trade winds).
